UNDP Donates 19 Rugged Laptops to the Election Magistrates of the National Elections Commission

On 23 November, the United Nations Development Program, UNDP has donated 19 modern touch screen rugged laptops to the National Elections Commission (NEC) for use by the Magistrates Offices in the counties. The laptops are to facilitate communication between the Headquarters and the field, and subsequently towards the electoral stakeholders. UNDP Chief Electoral Adviser underlined the importance of timely, transparent, open, and honest communication, especially during election date and tabulation of the results.

NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Browne Lansanna said the intervention was timely as NEC moves towards the 8 December 2020 elections. She and the NEC Magistrates committed to use the equipment strictly in line with internal policies and regulations.

The donation was made as part of the Liberia Electoral Support Project signed in September 2020. The Project, currently running with UNDP funds and a contribution from Germany, provides some support to 2020 Special Senatorial Elections. Its main focus, nevertheless, is building capacity of NEC and electoral stakeholders in advanced areas of electoral operations towards strong, just, peaceful and democratic electoral and democratic process. The Project builds on the Support to Liberia Electoral Cycle Project that ran from 2015 till 2020 with contribution from European Union, Sweden, Ireland, and Canada.
