UNDP and partners sponsor 2019 Annual Youth Summit

The Youth Empowerment and Education Summit held from 17 to 22 November 2019, provided a global platform for youths to freely collaborate, connect, create and contribute to finding solutions to problems faced by them, especially in Africa.

It was held under the theme “Measuring Impact, 2016-2018 and used as a platform for participants from the previous three Summits to share their success stories base on the benefits achieved.

The platform was also used to share key information on issues pertaining to youth education and empowerment including: addressing gender issues relating to education; creating awareness on the proposed elections law reforms, promoting youth participation in elections, prevention of election-related violence, among other aspects.

The Summit was sponsored by UNDP and Partners- European Union, Governments of Canada, Ireland and Sweden.

The high level event was attended by several stakeholders including: development partners, government leaders, members of Civil Society Organisations and youths from different countries namely: Ghana, Cote d’ivoire, Sierra Leone, Qatar, among others.

85 delegates from across Africa and other parts of the world attended the event. It is the fourth edition of the summit organized by the youth led education agency YOCEL bringing together young leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators. In this fourth summit discussions were focused on topics such as legal elections reform, support to social innovative ideas of young people, and technology and infrastructure in Africa.

The AYEESummit19 is part of the project support to the Liberian election cycle” implemented by UNDP Liberia with funding from Election Basket Fund Donors- the European Union in Liberia, Sweden, Ireland and UNDP Liberia.
